Teaching Design

Teaching Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

1. Understand Beethoven's life journey and the key vocabulary related to it.

2. Analyze the structure of a biography and understand the use of flashback in writing.

3. Master the techniques for answering detailed comprehension questions.

4. Identify the qualities that made Beethoven a great musician and discuss what makes a remarkable life.

Teaching Key Points:

1. Learn the important events in Beethoven's life, particularly his reaction to losing his hearing and his achievements in music.

2. Understand the biography structure and the use of flashback as a writing technique.

Teaching Difficulties:

1. Analyze Beethoven’s virtues, such as courage and determination, and how he overcame difficulties.

2. Understand the use of transitions and flashback in a biography.

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1: Lead-in

1. Key phrases review:

Have students translate and memorize the key phrases listed in the PPT, such as "a crowd of," "be unaware of," and "be determined to".

2. Warming up:

1) Have students answer two questions:

Q1: Are you familiar with these pieces?

Q2: Who is the composer?

2) Have students watch a short video about the introduction of Beethoven and share what they have learned about Beethoven.

Step 2: Global reading

Activity 1: Read for the structure and details

Have Students read the text and summarize the main idea of each paragraph:

Para 1: The first-ever performance of Symphony No.9.

Para 2: Beethoven’s life journey before his late twenties.

Para 3: Beethoven’s attitude towards losing his hearing.

Para 4: Introduction to Symphony No.9.

Para 5: Beethoven’s reputation and achievements.

Activity 2: Read for the genre and writing techniques

Have students discuss the genre and the organization of the passage and introduce the technique of flashback.

Step 3: Detailed reading

Activity 1: Understand Beethoven's Life Journey

Have students read Paragraphs 2 and 3 and fill in a flow chart outlining Beethoven's life journey, focusing on key stages: as a gifted child, a teenager, his twenties, and the loss of hearing.

Have students discuss how Beethoven overcame challenges, particularly his hearing loss, and what made his life remarkable.

 

Activity 2: Reading for details of the first-ever performance

Have students read Paragraph 1 and answer the question:

How did the audience react to Beethoven's performance?

Activity 3: Appreciate Symphony No.9

Have students read Paragraph 4 and analyze the characteristics of each movement in Symphony No.9:

First Movement: From quiet to energetic.

Second and Third Movements: Reflect Beethoven’s emotional highs and lows.

Fourth Movement: Joyful chorus, symbolizing triumph over struggle.

Have students appreciate how the music reflects Beethoven’s life​

Activity 4: Understand Beethoven’s reputation and achievements

    Have students read paragraph 5 and ask them why Beethoven is regarded as one of the most remarkable musicians in history.

Step 4: Critical Thinking

1. Students are required to find out Beethoven’s qualities as a musician by adding nouns to the following chart.

                  

2. Ask students to discuss:

What qualities made Beethoven a remarkable musician?

Guide them to explore factors such as musical talent, determination, persistence, and how these qualities contributed to his success.

Encourage students to reflect on their own experiences and the qualities they admire in Beethoven.

Step 5: Writing Task

Students will write a 100-word biography of Beethoven based on the vocabulary, sentence structures, and content discussed in class.

1. Sentence Patterns:

Beethoven was born in Germany in 1770.

He is famous for his work, especially Symphony No.9.

In his late twenties, Beethoven began to lose his hearing, but he remained determined to compose.

Despite many challenges, he composed some of the most celebrated music in history.

Beethoven is regarded as one of the greatest musicians ever.

2. Assignment:

Using the sentence patterns provided, students will complete a short biography of Beethoven, focusing on key moments in his life, his challenges, and his legacy.

Step 6: Homework

1. Memorize and consolidate key phrases and vocabulary.

2. Complete the exercises on pages 46-47 of the workbook.

3. Complete the grammar cloze based on the text.

 

反思与总结

在设计这堂课时,我特别注重培养学生的学科核心素养和学习兴趣。我们团队在设计这节课时,不仅仅是为了教授知识点,更是为了培养学生的思维能力、语言表达能力和审美意识。通过对贝多芬生平重要经历及其品质的学习,学生不仅能掌握相关语言知识,更能领悟到音乐背后的文化内涵和精神力量。

这节课以贝多芬的非凡人生为线索,学生通过任务型阅读、词汇运用以及写作练习,不仅掌握了人物传记的写作技巧,还培养了他们分析问题、解决问题的能力。课上的每一个环节都充满了引导性和启发性,学生们在主动思考和交流中获得了知识,也提升了能力。

这堂课的目标设置是多层次的,不仅仅是知识的传授,更包含了能力的培养和文化的熏陶。在教学设计中,我们通过3+3+1”模式,帮助学生在理解文本的基础上,分析人物的品质,掌握记叙文的写作技巧。通过详细的段落分析、词汇拓展以及写作练习,学生的语言运用能力得到了有效提升,同时他们也对贝多芬的精神品质产生了深刻的共鸣。

在课堂的实施中,我特别注重引导学生进行批判性思维的培养。在阅读和写作环节中,我设计了多层次的引导问题,帮助学生从不同角度分析和评价贝多芬的人生,并鼓励他们将所学知识应用到实际写作中。

这次公开课不仅是我们教学工作的一个阶段性展示,更是未来教学的起点。在今后的教学中,我将继续秉持团队合作和创新的精神,不断探索和改进教学方法,以学生为中心,进一步提升他们的语言能力和学科素养。同时,我也希望能借助这次集体备课的经验,带动更多的同事参与到集体备课和教学改革中,共同提升教学质量。
