I always don't know what to say because the ultimate question that will come down is, what do you want to be when you grow up so that you will be successful. Parents, relatives, even friends, ask these questions because the main concern is, will you be successful in the future? In today's society, we are overly concerned with being successful and neglected other important aspect when picking a career or even choosing a school.
Parents place pressure on their children asking them to get the best grades, highest test scores. However they overlook the fact that, are we happy as students? Do we like what we are study? Is this what we want? The word "success", in modern society, is being defined as money, power, and social status. However, when we think about it, do we need all these to be happy?? Sometimes happiness can be really simple. It can be just having an ice cream with your loved ones. It can simply be doing what you like. We don't need all the physical stuff to glorify ourselves. We all have our own definition of success. We all have our own definition of happiness too. Do what we like and find our own way of life. It is your life that you are living after all. Why not make it worthwhile? |
