- Students will write logically clear and grammatically correct short essays based on given information and requirements.

2. Process and Methods:

- Enhance students’ reading comprehension, information extraction, summarization, and written expression skills through reading analysis and writing practice.

3. Emotional Attitudes and Values:

- Cultivate students’ positive attitudes toward music and guide them to recognize the importance of music in daily life.

II. Teaching Key and Difficult Points

1. Key Points:

- Understanding the influence of music on the author in the reading text.

- Mastering writing essentials, including structure arrangement, content expansion, and language use.

2. Difficult Points:

- Using appropriate language and logic to expand note content into a complete and insightful short essay.

III. Teaching Methods

Lecture method, discussion method, practice method

IV. Teaching Procedures

(1) Introduction (5 minutes)

- Play a piece of soothing music. After listening, ask students about their feelings and guide them to share how music influences their lives, leading to the reading-writing theme of “the influence of music.”

(2) Reading Instruction (15 minutes)

1. Fast Reading:

- Students quickly skim the reading text about David Smith and answer: “What is the main idea of the passage?” to grasp the overall theme.

2. Detailed Reading:

- Students read the text again and complete tasks:

- Identify vocabulary and sentences describing David Smith’s mood during his illness.

- Analyze how music helped David Smith.

- Summarize the viewpoints and examples of music’s role mentioned in the text.

3. Vocabulary Explanation:

- Teach key vocabulary and phrases in the text, such as “serious illness,” “discouraged,” “work wonders,” etc., using example sentences to aid understanding and memorization.

4. Text Analysis:

- Analyze the text structure and writing ideas with students, sorting out the logical sequence through which the author explains music’s influence.

(3) Writing Instruction (20 minutes)

1. Writing Task Explanation:

- Present the writing prompt, clarifying the task: write about “What does music bring to me?” by integrating note content and expanding appropriately.

2. Structure Analysis:

- Analyze the structure of a model essay with students:

- Introduction: Use a metaphor to introduce the importance of music.

- Body: Elaborate on music’s influence from different aspects (e.g., providing hope and strength, building relationships, broadening horizons) with personal experiences.

- Conclusion: Summarize music’s role in enriching life and call for valuing music.

3. Content Expansion Guidance:

- Guide students to expand note points, e.g.:

- For “give me hope and strength,” share experiences of振作起来 (recovering morale) through a song after exam failures or competition losses.

- For “build a good relationship,” narrate stories of making friends through music clubs or activities.

4. Language Use Guidance:

- Remind students to use varied sentence patterns and linking words (e.g., “not only…but also…,” “therefore,” “besides”) to enhance coherence.

- Encourage replacing common words with advanced vocabulary (e.g., use “enrich” instead of “make…richer”).

(4) In-Class Practice and Guidance (10 minutes)

- Students practice writing while the teacher circulates to correct issues in grammar, spelling, and logical expression.

(5) Writing Feedback and Summary (5 minutes)

- Display and comment on selected student compositions. First, have students self-evaluate and peer-review based on content completeness, logical clarity, and language accuracy.

- The teacher provides supplementary feedback, emphasizing common issues and improvement directions.

- Summarize the lesson’s key points, reviewing music’s influence in the reading text and writing essentials.

V. Teaching Resources

Textbook materials, multimedia equipment (for playing music)

VI. Teaching Reflection

- Monitor students’ participation and comprehension, providing extra guidance to less advanced learners.

- In the writing feedback session, further encourage students to voice their opinions and improve autonomous learning and evaluation skills.
